| Obverse description | Uncrowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, modelled by Martin Jennings, occupying the central field. The portrait renders the King in a naturalistic style with fine detail to the facial features and hair. The peripheral legend reads CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·50 PENCE·2023 in raised capital letters, with the engraver's initials MJ visible in small letters to the lower right of the truncation. |

The Windrush Generation commemorative marks the 75th anniversary of HMT Empire Windrush's arrival at Tilbury Docks in June 1948, carrying roughly 500 Caribbean migrants — though the actual number aboard remains debated, with manifests suggesting closer to 492 ticketed passengers. The broader Windrush scandal, which broke publicly in 2018, saw hundreds of Commonwealth citizens wrongly detained, deported, or denied NHS treatment after the Home Office destroyed landing cards dating to that era.
The Royal Mint issued this piece during the first full year of Charles III's reign, making it one of the earliest definitive commemoratives to carry his effigy.
