Additional information

The Liberation of Guernsey on 9 May 1945 marked the end of the only German occupation of British soil during the Second World War — five years under a regime that requisitioned property, deported residents to internment camps in Germany, and left the island's infrastructure in near ruin. May 9th remains a public holiday on Guernsey to this day, one of very few places in the British Isles where VE Day is observed as a distinct local celebration rather than a national afterthought.

The 2025 issue marks the 80th anniversary.
