Reverse description The reverse design, enhanced with selective gold plating on the upper and lower registers, commemorates the Liberation of Guernsey on 9 May 1945. The central silver field depicts a celebratory scene in low to medium relief: a British soldier in helmet and full kit is greeted warmly by jubilant Guernsey civilians, with a waving Union flag visible in the background and cheering figures to the right. The denomination 50p appears in the lower left of the scene in silver relief. The gold-plated upper inscription reads THIS IS YOUR VICTORY in bold lettering, while the gold-plated lower legend reads LIBERATION DAY ON GUERNSEY.

Additional information

The Liberation of Guernsey on 9 May 1945 marked the end of the only German occupation of British soil during the Second World War — five years under a regime that requisitioned property, deported residents to internment camps in Germany, and left the island's infrastructure in near ruin. May 9th remains a public holiday on Guernsey to this day, one of very few places in the British Isles where VE Day is observed as a distinct local celebration rather than a national afterthought.

The 2025 issue marks the 80th anniversary.
