Pitcairn Islands issues are struck under contract by overseas mints — the islands themselves have no minting facility, and their tiny population of roughly fifty people makes them one of the least economically significant issuing authorities in the world. That paradox is precisely why Pitcairn coinage exists: the collector market, not circulation, is the entire point. This piece marks the 2025 anniversary programming around Victoria, whose reign established Pitcairn as a formal British territory in 1838 following the Bounty mutineer settlement.
