Part of the Royal Mint's ongoing Natural History Museum collaboration, this issue belongs to a dinosaur series that began in 2020 and has leaned increasingly on precious metal proof formats to sustain collector interest. The Natural History Museum holds one of the most significant Tyrannosaurus rex specimens in Europe — "Stan," a cast of the Hell Creek Formation original — which lends the partnership at least nominal scientific credibility.
At 15.5 g of 22-carat gold in a 50p format, the face value is purely ceremonial.
