| Additional information |
The Wombles, created by Elisabeth Beresford in 1968 after she misheard her daughter mispronounce "Wimbledon Common," became a BBC television fixture in the early 1970s and remain one of the more enduring British children's franchises. Madame Cholet, the burrow's cook and domestic authority, is among the most recognizable characters in the series. Guernsey has issued licensed commemorative 50p pieces since the denomination's introduction, and this colored variant is produced for the collector market rather than general circulation.
