The Snowman has appeared on Royal Mint 50p issues since 1985, making it one of the longest-running festive coin programmes in British commemorative history. Raymond Briggs's 1978 wordless picture book was adapted into the animated film that same year the series launched, and the pairing of that IP with the 50p format has proven commercially durable across four decades and now three monarchs.
The 2024 issue is among the first Snowman coins to carry the new effigy of Charles III following his 2023 coronation.
