| Additional information |
The Snowman 50p has been issued periodically by the Royal Mint since 1998, tied to the Raymond Briggs animated film that first aired on Channel 4 in 1982. The 2023 Charles III version is among the first holiday-themed circulation coins to carry the new effigy following the Queen's death in September 2022 — the Royal Mint's transition to Charles III portraiture moved faster on commemorative and seasonal issues than on standard circulating coinage.
Briggs died in August 2022, just weeks before the Queen, making this issue the first Snowman coin produced without either figure still living.
