Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a colour-printed depiction of a Supermarine Spitfire in plan view, set against a stylised RAF aircraft compass or heading indicator dial rendered in dark enamel, with graduated numerical markings (6 through 28) and tick-marks radiating from the centre across the field. A coloured RAF roundel in red, white, and blue appears at the right margin between the dates '1940' and '2025'. The upper legend reads '85TH ANNIVERSARY BATTLE OF BRITAIN' arcing along the top edge, while 'SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE' is inscribed in a straight legend along the lower margin of the heptagonal flan.

Aanvullende informatie

Alderney holds a specific claim on Spitfire history that most commemorative issuers lack: the island lies directly beneath what was one of the most contested stretches of airspace during the Battle of Britain, and German forces occupied it from 1940 until liberation in May 1945. A British territory issuing Spitfire coinage carries more local resonance here than it would from almost anywhere else in the Crown Dependencies.

The 7.78g weight places this in the quarter-ounce silver format, now widely used for affordable bullion-adjacent commemoratives in the 50p denomination.
