The Gold State Coach depicted here has carried every British monarch to their coronation since George IV, who commissioned it in 1762 at a cost of £7,562. It weighs four tons and requires eight horses to move at walking pace — it cannot travel faster without risk of structural damage. Guernsey, as a Crown Dependency, issues its own coinage independently of the Royal Mint but marks significant royal occasions as a matter of long practice.
The coach last rolled publicly for Charles III's coronation procession in May 2023, its first working appearance since Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee in 2002.
