The portrait renders the King in high relief with naturalistic detail, depicting the head and upper shoulders with a plain truncation. The engraver's initials MJ appear incuse in the lower right field, just below the truncation. The peripheral legend reads CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2023 · arranged continuously around the effigy, separated by raised dots, with the denomination and date running along the right and lower portions of the coin. |

Issued as part of the Royal Mint's licensing agreement with Lucasfilm, this piece belongs to a multi-coin Star Wars series released in 2023. The Royal Mint has pursued entertainment IP collaborations aggressively since the mid-2010s, a commercial strategy that generates significant premium sales on collector-priced base-metal issues that cost little to produce.
