Pitcairn Islands coinage has no circulating function — the island's roughly fifty permanent residents transact in New Zealand dollars. These pieces are issued entirely for the collector market, licensed through the Pobjoy Mint and its successors, with the Pitcairn name lending an exotic postal address to what are essentially British commemorative products. The Beatrix Potter series has been a staple of this format since Royal Mint issues popularized it in the UK from 2016 onward.
Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, the hedgehog washerwoman first published in 1905, was based on Potter's own pet hedgehog, Tiggy.
