Reverse description The reverse design commemorates the centenary of the British Grand Prix, featuring two racing cars juxtaposed at centre: a vintage Brooklands-era open-wheel racer of the 1920s alongside a contemporary Formula One car, symbolising a century of motorsport evolution. The Union Flag rendered in partial detail forms a dynamic background behind the central motif. The commemorative dates 1926 and 2026 flank the design, with the inscriptions GRAND PRIX and CENTENARY completing the legend around the field, along with the mintmark ICP.

Additional information

The British Grand Prix first ran at Silverstone in 1950, that inaugural race doubling as the first round of the newly established Formula One World Championship. Juan Manuel Fangio finished fourth; Giuseppe Farina won and went on to take the title. The centenary falls in 2050, which makes this a commemorative issued a full quarter-century before the event it nominally marks — an unusual decision by any standard.
