Obverse description The Gibraltar Government Coat of Arms is rendered in high relief at the centre of the field, depicting the heraldic shield supported by two rearing horses and surmounted by a royal crown. A circular legend runs around the periphery of the heptagonal flan, with the date 2025 appearing in the lower exergual area flanked by raised dots. The design follows the standard non-regal obverse format adopted by Gibraltar for its commemorative coinage under Charles III.

Additional information

Gibraltar's postal and commemorative coin program has long targeted British collectors priced out of Royal Mint limited editions, and this issue follows that pattern. The "first passenger steam train" referenced is almost certainly the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, which opened on 15 September 1830 — an event that killed William Huskisson MP when he was struck by Stephenson's Rocket during the opening ceremony, making the occasion simultaneously triumphant and catastrophic.
