Obverse description Uncrowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, rendered in high relief after the portrait by Glyn Davies. The legend CHARLES III • BAILIWICK OF JERSEY arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 2023 flanked by two raised dots positioned at the base of the field. The portrait is distinguished by its naturalistic, contemporary style, with fine detail in the hair and facial features. No crown or regalia is depicted, in keeping with the standard coinage portrait adopted for Charles III.

Additional information

Jersey has issued annual Christmas 50 pence pieces since 1978, making this one of the longest-running seasonal coin programs from any British Crown Dependency. The series predates similar themed issues from the Royal Mint by decades and has developed a collector following largely independent of mainstream British numismatics.

KM#484 is among the first Jersey issues to feature the effigy of Charles III following his accession in September 2022.
