Issued under a licensing agreement between the Royal Mint and Lucasfilm, this is part of a broader Star Wars series that began in 2023 — the first time the Royal Mint struck officially circulating-specification commemorative coinage based on a commercial film franchise. The Death Star II specifically references the second superweapon from the original trilogy, destroyed in Return of the Jedi (1983).
