附加信息

On June 6, 1944, the 2nd Ranger Battalion scaled the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc under direct fire, only to find the heavy gun emplacements they had been sent to destroy were empty — the Germans had moved the artillery inland. The Rangers located and destroyed the guns regardless, then held the position against counterattacks for two days with roughly half their original force remaining.

Jersey's D-Day commemorative series has issued multiple 50p types for the 80th anniversary. Pointe du Hoc sits in the American sector of the Normandy operation, making its appearance on a Channel Island coin a deliberate act of breadth — Jersey itself was under German occupation on that same day.
