The Isle of Man has issued commemorative fifty pence pieces under royal licence for decades, exploiting its status as a Crown dependency to produce collectibles outside the remit of the Royal Mint. This 2024 piece marks the 80th anniversary of the June 1944 landings, in which roughly 156,000 Allied troops crossed the Channel in the largest seaborne invasion in history. The Isle of Man had no direct military role in Overlord, which makes the issuing authority here a matter of licensing rather than historical connection.
