| Reverse description | A dynamic, action-oriented composition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy Landings of 6 June 1944. In the foreground, two Allied soldiers in combat helmets and battle dress advance under fire, one prominently carrying a rifle. The background field is densely populated with period military detail including naval warships offshore, a tank advancing on the beach, barbed wire obstacles in the lower field, and paratrooper figures descending by parachute in the upper left. Military aircraft are depicted in the upper background. The inscription D-DAY 80 arcs boldly across the top of the field, the denomination 50p appears to the right of centre, and NORMANDY LANDINGS is inscribed across the lower portion of the field in large raised lettering. |

The Isle of Man has issued commemorative fifty pence pieces under royal licence for decades, exploiting its status as a Crown dependency to produce collectibles outside the remit of the Royal Mint. This 2024 piece marks the 80th anniversary of the June 1944 landings, in which roughly 156,000 Allied troops crossed the Channel in the largest seaborne invasion in history. The Isle of Man had no direct military role in Overlord, which makes the issuing authority here a matter of licensing rather than historical connection.
