Beschrijving voorzijde Uncrowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, rendered in low relief after the portrait by Glyn Davies. The legend arcs around the upper periphery reading CHARLES III • BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY, with the date 2023 positioned centrally at the base, flanked by two raised dots. The field is plain and unadorned, with the king's truncated bust occupying the central zone of the heptagonal flan.

Aanvullende informatie

The Ampulla — the eagle-shaped flask used to hold the holy anointing oil — is among the oldest objects used in the English coronation ceremony, with the current vessel dating to the reign of Charles II in 1661. The oil poured from its beak onto the Archbishop's spoon during Charles III's May 2023 coronation was newly consecrated, blended from olives grown on the Mount of Olives and scented with sesame, rose, jasmine, and other oils — a formulation specifically commissioned for the occasion by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
