Guernsey occupied a singular position in the Battle of Britain narrative: the only British territory under Nazi occupation for the duration of the war, its residents were neither combatants nor free civilians but something in between. The island's own experience of German administration from June 1940 onward gives any Guernsey-issued commemoration of that campaign an undercurrent that a Royal Mint equivalent simply cannot carry.
Charles III appears here as issuing authority for the first time on a Battle of Britain series coin, replacing his mother mid-programme.
