Anne of Cleves is best remembered as the wife Henry VIII annulled after reportedly finding her unattractive in person — a sharp contrast to her flattering Holbein portrait. The marriage lasted six months in 1540. Anne negotiated shrewdly and walked away with a generous settlement, several properties, and the title "the King's Sister," outliving Henry by ten years.
Guernsey has issued a series of 50 pence pieces commemorating Henry's six wives under Charles III's reign. Anne's coin is the fourth in that sequence.
