Jersey's civilian experience during the German Occupation (1940–1945) is among the most documented in the British Isles, and the Anderson shelter — distributed free to households earning under £250 a year from 1938 onward — became the defining structure of British home-front survival. Jersey's occupation complicates that narrative: once the Germans arrived in July 1940, shelters built against Luftwaffe raids became irrelevant, and islanders faced a fundamentally different threat from the one the shelters were designed for.
This is the third Charles III-era commemorative issued by the States of Jersey continuing their wartime civilian infrastructure series.
