| Additional information |
VE Day was marked across British territories on 8 May 1945, but the Falkland Islands had a particular stake in the Allied victory — the islands had been under direct threat of Axis naval activity in the South Atlantic, and the memory of the 1939 Battle of the River Plate, fought within the broader South Atlantic theater, remained sharp. The Falklands had served as a strategic British staging point throughout the war.
This 2025 issue marks the 80th anniversary of that surrender.
