Gagauzia is an autonomous territorial unit within Moldova, home to a Turkic-speaking Orthodox Christian minority that narrowly avoided open conflict with Chișinău in the early 1990s. It has no internationally recognized currency-issuing authority, and these brass pieces occupy an ambiguous legal space — produced as local collectibles or quasi-official tokens rather than circulating tender in any conventional sense.
