The 50 paise is the smallest denomination still legal tender in India following the 2011 demonetization of all sub-50 paise coins — the 25 paise and below were officially withdrawn from circulation on June 30th of that year, leaving this piece as the floor of the currency system. In practice, it has largely vanished from everyday transactions regardless, with retailers routinely rounding to the nearest rupee.
