| Opmerkingen |
The National Reserve Bank of Tonga was established in 1989, replacing the Bank of Tonga — itself only founded in 1974 — as the kingdom's central monetary authority. This 1995 series marked one of the early issues under the new institution's name, and De La Rue's involvement was consistent with Tonga's longstanding preference for British security printers dating back to its pre-independence currency arrangements with the Colonial Bank of Issue.
The Pa'anga was introduced in 1967, decimalizing a system previously based on the Tongan pound. At fifty units, this is the highest denomination in the P#36 series.
