Obverse description Unadorned bust of King Olav V facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair combed back. The effigy occupies the majority of the obverse field and is presented without inscription or legend, in a restrained and modernist sculptural style. The truncation of the neck is cleanly defined, set low within the field against a smooth, unadorned background.

Reverse description A Norwegian Elkhound depicted in full gallop to the right, rendered in dynamic relief with its characteristic curled tail and thick coat faithfully detailed. The denomination legend '50·ØRE' arcs across the upper field in bold raised lettering, while the inscription 'NORGE·' followed by the year of issue appears along the lower field. Below the date, the mint mark of the Royal Norwegian Mint — a pair of crossed mining hammers — is struck in the lower exergual area. The overall composition is bold and emblematic, celebrating a quintessential Norwegian breed.
