This 1988 bronze pattern was struck as part of the Royal Danish Mint's evaluation process ahead of the 50 øre coinage reforms of the early 1990s. Denmark was actively reconsidering its minor coinage denominations during this period, ultimately transitioning to aluminum-bronze alloys and redesigned smaller flans before the 50 øre was discontinued entirely in 2008. Patterns like this one document the discarded paths in that process.
