50 Øre Handelsstederne i Grønland, Type II: Stamped serial number

Handelsstederne i Grønland — the network of Danish colonial trading posts — issued these notes as internal scrip rather than conventional currency, intended for use within the trading system itself rather than general public exchange. Greenland had no independent monetary infrastructure at the time; these notes substituted for coin in a remote environment where specie was impractical to maintain in circulation.

The Type II designation distinguishes examples with a stamped serial number from the manuscript-numbered Type I — a small operational shift that reflects growing transaction volume at the posts. P#1 is the first catalogued Greenlandic paper issue, which alone accounts for most collector interest.
