The issuer's name, Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani Aktieselskap, is set in bold Gothic blackletter script at centre, framed by decorative flourishes. The denomination '50 – Femti Øre' appears within an ornamental cartouche at mid-field, flanked by large watermark-style numerals '50' printed as a pale underprint on either side; the full terms of redemption, validity conditions, and season reference (1921/22) are set out in smaller letterpress text below, with series designation and serial number at upper left and right respectively, and manuscript signature of the Chairman of the Board at lower left above his printed title. |

Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani — commonly abbreviated SNSK — operated the coal mining settlement at Longyearbyen on Svalbard and issued its own scrip currency for use within that closed company town. Workers were paid partly in this local currency, redeemable only at the company store. The arrangement kept money circulating inside the settlement and reduced the logistical burden of importing Norwegian krone in sufficient quantity to a remote Arctic archipelago with no permanent civilian banking infrastructure.
The SN13r designation indicates a remainder — unissued stock, never formally put into circulation. Remainders from this series survive in higher numbers than genuinely circulated examples, which took considerable punishment in a mining camp environment.
