| 背面描述 | The central field bears the national coat of arms of Zambia in full detail, featuring a shield supported by two human figures, surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings, and a scroll below bearing the national motto ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. The commemorative legend SECOND REPUBLIC 13TH DECEMBER 1972 curves around the upper and right periphery, while the denomination 50 NGWEE appears along the lower rim, separated by pellet stops, all within the dodecagonal border. |

Zambia's Second Republic began in December 1972 when Kenneth Kaunda dissolved all political parties and declared a one-party state under UNIP, a shift that reframed the entire apparatus of state symbolism — coinage included. The 50 Ngwee issued across this period circulated through one of southern Africa's more turbulent economic decades, as copper export revenues collapsed after the mid-1970s price crash devastated an economy built almost entirely on the metal.
The irony of a copper-nickel coin issued by a state financially ruined by falling copper prices is not lost on serious collectors of African post-colonial coinage.
