Obverse description The Royal Arms of Bhutan occupies the central field, depicted as a circular emblem featuring two intricately detailed dragons in high relief, their bodies intertwined around a central vajra (thunderbolt) symbol, with lotus blossoms at the upper and lower registers. The design is rendered within a beaded inner border. The upper legend reads KINGDOM OF BHUTAN in Latin script, flanked on either side by the date 1997. The lower portion of the coin bears the state name in Dzongkha script (འབྲུག་ཡུལ).
