Issued by the Isle of Man and struck by Pobjoy Mint, this piece commemorates the Norse heritage of the island, which served as a significant Viking settlement and administrative base from the late 9th century onward. The Manx legal and governmental structure — including Tynwald, one of the oldest continuous parliaments in the world — descends directly from that Norse occupation.
The .925 silver version was struck alongside a cupro-nickel circulation issue, a distinction Pobjoy Mint used from the outset of their Isle of Man contract, which began in 1973 after the island gained full control over its own coinage.
