| Opmerkingen |
The Banco da República do Brasil was itself a short-lived institution — formed in 1892 through the forced merger of the Banco do Brasil and the Banco da República dos Estados Unidos do Brasil, it survived barely a decade before being absorbed into a reconstituted Banco do Brasil in 1905. This note falls at the very beginning of that institution's existence, issued during the turbulent Encilhamento aftermath, when Brazil's experiment with loose monetary policy had already generated runaway inflation and a cascade of bank failures.
Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig produced the plates, a common arrangement for Brazilian institutions of the period that lacked domestic high-security printing capability.
