Finland's central bank has printed its own notes in-house since the early twentieth century, and this issue is a product of that long-standing arrangement. The Litt A and Litt B designations mark successive print runs with minor plate or typographic corrections — a housekeeping distinction that matters more to specialist collectors than it did to the Finnish public handling the notes at the counter.

By 1963 the markka had already been redenominated at 100:1 following the 1963 monetary reform, making this among the first 50 markka notes issued under the new unit.
