| Obverse description | Buff card stock with an allover fine crosshatch guilloche border in red-brown frames the note. The issuer's name 'Herzoglich Braunschweigische Sparkasse' is set in large Gothic blackletter script across the upper field, with the denomination '50 M.' printed in red within ruled corner boxes at upper left and right, and the written value 'fünfzig Mark' in red Gothic script within a central ruled panel. Series designation 'Serie IV lit. J' appears at left with a serial number at right, the issue date 'Braunschweig, am 1. 11. 18' entered in manuscript accompanied by two handwritten signatures and a circular official blind stamp, with the overprint 'Unverzinsliches Kriegsnotgeld' applied in bold Gothic letterpress across the lower field. |
