| Beschrijving voorzijde | The face is enclosed within a bold Greek key meander border at all four corners, with the denomination '50' in script at each corner. A central intaglio vignette by Gatteaux, engraved by A. Tardieu, presents a seated allegorical figure of the Republic — draped in classical robes, holding a fasces and a branch — enthroned upon a plinth bearing the fasces, a cockerel, and other Revolutionary symbols. The title 'République Française' and 'Assignat de cinquante LIVRES' appear in prominent copperplate script above the vignette, with the creation date, year of the Republic, and the mortgage guarantee text flanking the central figure. Legal warnings are printed vertically in the left and right margins, and 'LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ' appears in a panel at the foot of the note alongside the série and numéro. |
