Lithuania restored its currency in June 1993, replacing the interim talonas with the litas at a fixed rate of 100 talonų to 1 litas. The 50 Litas denomination was part of that initial restored series, with Thomas De La Rue contracted to handle production — a common choice for newly re-independent states in the early 1990s lacking domestic security printing infrastructure.
The watermark is the sole listed security feature, which reflects the compressed production timeline rather than any deliberate minimalism. Later Lithuanian issues added significantly more sophisticated features as the currency settled into long-term use.
