The JNA (Yugoslav People's Army) issued fuel coupons — commonly called "benzinske markice" — as internal scrip to control and allocate gasoline among military units. These were not legal tender and never entered civilian circulation. The system allowed the army to ration fuel independently of the civilian economy, particularly useful during periods of foreign currency strain when Yugoslavia's fuel imports were under pressure.
Collecting these as notaphilic items is a relatively recent development. Most were consumed in use or discarded; survivors tend to come from administrative lots rather than individual circulation.
