Malta issued a series of pattern coins in 1977 as the government explored potential designs for higher-denomination silver pieces during a period of acute national self-determination — the country had achieved independence from Britain only in 1964 and became a republic in 1974. Patterns from this program rarely escaped official channels, and most surviving examples trace back to government archives or mint distributions rather than commercial circulation.
KM# Pn10 is one of the scarcer documented entries in the Maltese pattern series. The "Mnara" designation refers to a lighthouse or tower motif program within the issue group.
