| Descrizione del rovescio | Two allegorical figures occupy the central field: a standing female personification of Italia and a male figure, seated upon an altar, representing Roma. Behind the figures rises a large steam-powered warship adorned with festoons and bearing the Savoy shield upon its prow, symbolising Italian naval power and national pride. To the left of the figures, a floral-draped plow bears the commemorative dates 1861-1911, marking the fiftieth anniversary of Italian unification. The denomination L. 50 and the Rome mintmark R appear to the right, while the word PROVA is inscribed in a semicircle at the top of the field. |

Issued for the 50th anniversary of Italian unification, this prova — a mint trial piece — was produced as part of a broader commemorative program that also included silver and base-metal denominations. The 1911 Esposizione Internazionale in Rome, Turin, and Florence provided the political occasion; the provas themselves were never intended for general circulation and were struck in extremely limited numbers for official approval and archival purposes.
KM#PrB15 is among the rarest surviving pieces from that program. Most provas of this type are accounted for in institutional collections.
