Beschrijving keerzijde A detailed, high-relief depiction of the Ahırkapı Lighthouse dominates the left and centre of the field, its cylindrical stone tower rising prominently with lantern room and gallery rendered in fine architectural detail. The Istanbul cityscape, including domed buildings and a suspension bridge, recedes into the background at lower right, while a vessel is visible on the water and two seagulls soar in the upper right field. The inscription 'AHIRKAPI FENERİ' appears in two lines to the upper right of the lighthouse in raised Latin capitals.

Aanvullende informatie

The Ahırkapı lighthouse, built in 1857 on the European shore of the Bosphorus near Istanbul, was one of a series of Ottoman-era navigational structures commissioned following increased steam traffic through the strait. This coin belongs to Turkey's long-running lighthouse commemorative series, which the Central Bank used to draw attention to endangered or historically significant maritime infrastructure along Turkish coastlines.

The Ahırkapı light was decommissioned and fell into disrepair before restoration efforts in the 2000s — the timing of this issue tracks closely with renewed public interest in its preservation.
