The eighth emission series of Turkish banknotes, introduced from 2009, was the first to incorporate a fully domestic security substrate program — the Central Bank's own printing works in Ankara had by this point developed sufficient in-house capability to handle OVI application and holographic stripe integration without outsourcing to Giesecke+Devrient or De La Rue. For a country that had relied heavily on foreign security printers through much of the twentieth century, that shift was deliberate policy.
The 50 Lira denomination entered this series after the catastrophic redenomination of 2005, which stripped six zeroes from the old Turkish lira — the Yeni Türk Lirası transition that made the pre-reform 50,000,000 lira note its direct ancestor in purchasing power terms.
