| 背面描述 | The reverse reproduces a medieval coin motif of Tsar Ivan Asen II of Bulgaria, depicting two standing figures in high relief: the crowned and robed tsar on the left holding a sceptre, and a haloed saint on the right with a hand raised in blessing. Old Cyrillic inscriptions flank the figures on both sides, identifying the tsar and the saint. The composition is faithful to medieval Bulgarian numismatic iconography and is enclosed within a beaded border. |

Ivan Asen II ruled Bulgaria from 1218 to 1241, presiding over the Second Bulgarian Empire at its territorial peak following his decisive victory over the Despotate of Epirus at the Battle of Klokotnitsa in 1230. The 1981 issue commemorates 1300 years since the founding of the First Bulgarian Empire in 681 AD — a jubilee the communist-era Bulgarian government marked with an extensive commemorative series across multiple denominations and metals.
KM#138 is one of several silver pieces from that program. Proof and circulation strike versions exist with differing mintage figures.
