| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of the young King George I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair swept back in natural waves. The circular legend in Greek reads ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ, distributed around the periphery. The engraver's signature ΒΑΡΡΕ appears in the lower field beneath the truncation, flanked by small decorative marks. The portrait is unadorned and classically conceived, consistent with the neoclassical style favored by the Paris Mint in the second half of the nineteenth century. The design is contained within a toothed border running along the full circumference. |
