Eugen Doga, born in 1937 in the Moldovan village of Mocra, is best known internationally for the waltz from the 1978 Soviet film My Sweet and Tender Beast — a piece that became one of the most recognizable compositions ever produced in the Soviet film industry. Moldova has honored him on multiple collector issues, reflecting a consistent national policy of commemorating living cultural figures on silver coinage, an approach less common among larger post-Soviet states.
