Issued as part of Moldova's ongoing series documenting traditional crafts, this piece commemorates cooperage — barrel-making — a trade with deep roots in the wine-producing regions of the country. Moldova's winemaking history stretches back millennia, and coopers supplied an essential industry that survived Soviet collectivization largely intact, if structurally transformed.
KM#45 was struck at the Lithuanian Mint in Vilnius, which has produced a significant portion of Moldova's commemorative silver output since the National Bank began issuing collector coins in the 1990s.
