Condrița Monastery, one of Moldova's oldest Orthodox foundations, sits in a forested ravine near Chișinău and was largely suppressed during Soviet rule — its monks expelled, its function reduced to a museum. The 2000 issue commemorating it arrived a decade after Moldovan independence, during a period when the National Bank was actively using its commemorative program to reassert cultural and religious identity erased under Soviet administration.
