| Obverse description | Central field features the coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova — a displayed eagle with a cross in its beak, holding an olive branch and a sceptre in its talons, with a shield on its breast bearing the traditional ox head, star, rose, and crescent motifs. The date 2011 appears above the eagle in the upper field. The legend REPUBLICA curves along the left rim and MOLDOVA along the right rim, both in raised Latin letters. Issued to commemorate the Romanian-language tradition of colindatul — the organized carol-singing practice performed door-to-door during the winter holiday period — this coin belongs to a broader Moldovan program of cultural preservation coinage that gained momentum in the 2000s as the country worked to assert a distinct national identity following Soviet-era suppression of Romanian folk traditions. The colindă as a musical form predates Christianity in the region, with roots in pre-Christian winter solstice ritual that were later absorbed into Orthodox practice.
KM#69 was struck to proof standard at a low mintage, typical of BNM collector issues from this period.
